While inexpensive sinks look nice coming out of the box (resulting in glowing reviews), eventually their "value engineering" will catch up with them. Your kitchen is too important to cut corners, and nothing is used more than your sink. Make a sound investment with a product that has addressed glaze longevity. Fossil Blu fireclay sinks are comprised of solid genuine crystalline-silica fireclay. When paired with a silica-based glaze and fired at 2200 degrees, the two silicas fuse together, creating a new quartz-like material. As opposed to inferior ceramic sinks, which are usually hollow core, fired at lower temperatures, and exhibit little fusing, ours is far superior and engineered to remove even the possibility of hairline cracks/crazing. Features
- Overview: Luxury 36" x 20" compression-molded solid fireclay farmhouse kitchen sink. Single bowl, modern design with 1/2" radius interior corners, straight sidewalls, flat front apron, 7/8" material thickness, and glossy glaze. Elegant matte black "linear" (pattern) sink grid, basket strainer-drain, and disposal flange included.
- Fine-grained quartz: This sink features authentic solid fine and ultra-fine fireclay. Authentic fireclay is a semi-rare natural white clay containing higher concentrations of fine-grained quartz (silica) than typical ceramic (kaolin) clays.
- Compression-molding: We begin with compression molding the sink shape via a 50,000-pound hydraulic press, creating an incredibly solid structure. Next, in the first of two killings, the sink is then low-fired for two days, curing the molded substrate.
- Glazing: This sink features legendary silica-based glaze, which is robotically applied, allowing for up to twice the glaze thickness compared to hand-sprayed glazing techniques.
- Polished nickel: Where chrome reflects cool colors, nickel reflects warm colors. This is especially true if the colors of the room and/or ambient lighting is warm. As a plated finish (as opposed to painted or vinyl coated), it is incredibly durable.
- Included accessories: One (1) modern design-pro sink grid, one (1) basket strainer drain, and one (1) garbage-disposal flange. These accessories are made from 304 stainless steel and finished in matte gold. Our matte gold finish is accomplished with both plating and powder coating processes. The drain and disposal flange features a genuine electro-plated finish, wherein a brass alloy is permanently bonded to the stainless steel via electrolysis. Light brushing brings in the matte texture. The grid features an electro-static powder-coated finish, wherein a static charge sends gold-pigment polymer resin powder clinging to the metal. Heat-curing then permanently bonds this pigment. Our matte gold finish is similar to “champaign bronze”, leaning lighter in color than a bold gold hue. When new, the plating of the drain and flange appears slightly shinier than the powder-coated grid, however upon use, the difference quickly fades. As plated and powder-coated finishes (as opposed to painted or vinyl coated), they are incredibly durable kitchen accessories.
