It seemed strange to mount something so heavy to a wall since most of the items I will display on it won't weigh as much as the shelf on its own. There is a metal mounting bracket that you at first mount on the wall using the included screws. I had to screw holes in this bracket to match the width of the studs in the wall I planned to mount it to. Once the bracket was mounted on the wall, the shelf slides onto the lip easily. I am using this shelf as a makeshift mantel. The shelf is quite heavy and it feels like petrified wood. Overall it is a very attractive shelf and makes for an attractive fireplace mantel.. Richard. These shelves are solid, sturdy and true to the color you see online. I can’t speak to how easy they are to install, because we are waiting for the room to be painted before we install them.
