When I saw that this fan's description noted it would cover a wide area, I thought it would be perfect for my downstairs living area, as it's open to the second story and has two skylights, so tends to stay warmer than the rest of the downstairs. I have to admit that I don't find the icons or instruction manual very intuitive (confusing even), but after I figured out which buttons to push, this thing rocks! On high, it's definitely not silent, but the noise is typical of a fan and the airflow is great. I also love that it oscillates, so it's really helped keep my family room extra comfortable this summer. I'm afraid I can't speak to the heating aspects as I just can't bring myself to try that right now, but my expectations are high based on how well it's cooled. Also, LOVE the remote control!!.
