These are really nice curtains. The background is definitely white and the stripe that runs through them does vary between navy to a lighter denim to a very light gray, but for me that was perfect for my living room. The fabric is a fairly heavy cotton (and part polyester; but they have the feel of cotton for sure). I ordered 3 pairs, and all of my stripes lined up once I hung them (I noticed in the reviews that some people complained about that). I washed them according to the instructions and they came out perfectly with no shrinkage and after ironing they looked awesome. During the day they let plenty of light in the room, and at night they definitely provide privacy even though they are semi sheer. I highly recommend these and I am extremely happy with my purchase.. Another review stated the curtains were brighter than what is shown in the picture. This is true. The curtains are a little more vibrant than what is pictured but they really do "pop". One downside is the same 2 panels that came together had about half inch length difference. To resolve this, I put the shorter panel closer to the corner of the wall and paired with another pair (Wayfair linen panels) as shown in the picture.
