This cat tree is sturdy! It was easy to assemble, besides initially lining up the base to the first post. I used the included wrench to "poke through" the holes to help line them up. It is a beautiful kitty tree. It is indeed not 'paded' at the top (besides rim), but seems soft enough for my kitty. My cat is too big to get on by himself (not as much space between basket bed and top of tree), but he doesn't mind, and spends hours on it after I place him there, lol. We also did not use the large dowel rods to make the small fence. I felt it could trap my cat's leg and cause an injury. We took the top section and glued it directly to the base to cover the pre drilled holes. There were a few other small issues, no holes drilled for the hammock, and the pine oil was still heavy in parts. We decided to glue the hammock and I just wiped the pine oil off with a towel in the thick areas and it all came off. Good construction on the basic tree but the velcro attachments for cushions are pretty cheap. Instead of small velcro circles use longer strips to better hold down edges.
