I spread paper in the tray and when the tray when the paper is dirty, I just pull it out take the paper away wipe it down or wash it and I’m done. I advise anyone that has more than one dog. This crate is exactly what I needed for my dog, a 25 pound "Houdini!" A few years ago I bought a beautiful crate for her that looked like furniture, but the problem was that the top was a wood-like surface that screwed on with four corner screws. When the little magician was in stress, she would arch her back and lift until the lid came unscrewed. She can't perform this trick on my new crate.
