Made in the USA, distressed mantels are perfect for when your fireplace needs to show some serious character. With heavy gouging, your mantel will look like it's got more than a few stories to tell. This is a handcrafted hollow fireplace mantel. Our mantels are hand-made with love and passion. These mantels are as beautiful as they are useful, robust, light, and elegant. The distressed look is achieved by hand with attention to detail. As a result, no two beams are the same and your beam will be one-of-a-kind. Dimensions may vary slightly from selected, due to the nature of the wood and the time effect on it. We use pine boards for our distressed mantels. The final product might appear a bit lighter or darker because of the lighting and nature of the wood.

While I love the look of this shelf, the bracket is very lacking and will not hold it level. Most hidden brackets have "arms" that extend out the length of the shelf but this one does not. Therefore, there is very little support and the whole shelf droops in the front. With our natural variation not being stained, the cut ends may be slightly lighter than the rest of the shelf, as cutting exposes the fresh, untouched wood. This adds a lovely contrast to the aging of the rest of the wood and accentuates the character that makes for a stunning display on your wall.

The wood was not the same shade as pictured. It also comes very “rustic” i.e. rough. You may get a few splinters when handling, so be careful. Also due to the rustic nature the boards are not exactly straight. This can make them appear a bit uneven on the wall. None of these were deal breakers for me. It is a good size in thickness. Absolutely love how these turned out. I followed the directions and washed the protective oil off of the metal brackets (warm water and dish soap), let them dry completely, and then sealed with clear polyurethane.
