Pros: It looks fantastic, turned on or off. Cons: Heater feature- not so good, and the “ember bed lights” are a little too stationary I was afraid to buy an insert because they can be so expensive and so big. I wanted one that looked “real”- hard to do. I was also terrified that when it was turned off, it would be these horrible red and orange painted logs. This looks fantastic on or off. The flames are projected on to the back of the fire place and look very real. I am amazed that the very simple technology to get these “flames” to project. Comes with a remote, so you dont have to get in and fiddle with the panel, but the panel is easily accessible on the front side, so it’s hidden but useful at the same time. My big Con- The heater- Because this is in the fire place, the heat really doesnt get out of the fire place. It goes up and out. But, I didnt buy it for warmth. They have other designs that I would look at if I wanted one to be a space heater. The other Con which affects the realism, is the lights in the ember bed of the piece. There are 2 main lights, that are stationary and close to the front and lessen the realistic look- but really this is a slight complaint, as overall, the piece is fantastic and looks pretty real.
