Amazingly quiet motor, all metal build, and the remote lights up (but only the LCD part - the buttons themselves are difficult to read in low light) and has worked flawlessly. Doesn't creak at all. It's a hair smaller than the queen mattress so that it the whole mechanism can fit inside any bed frame that has removable inner boxspring support rails. It's got a great supportive surface for a memory foam mattress. The metal legs have three sections that can allow you to adjust the height. My pics show it with a 14" mattress purchased from here as well, and with I adjusted the height so that the top of the 14" thick mattress was either 25" or 28" tall, with the bottom clearance beneath the bed either 7.5" or 10" (which is pretty high and allows my robot vacuum to get beneath it, something it can't do under my other beds). Knowing this now, I'd have bought a 12" thick mattress so that the bed is 23" tall since many nightstands are that height. I'd recommend another set of hands to carry it in and assemble it. Instructions are straightforward. It arrived with a slight gouge in the top surface due to a gash in the box, but is hidden by the mattress. The box it arrived in was heavy and unwieldy for the shippers, so i believe that it should be split into two boxes since the bed, in the box, already is in two equal size pieces that you bolt together for assembly.). We like the look of our new bed, but aren't sure it was worth the hassle. I was looking for a grey wooden headboard and ordered this bed because I got an email saying it was no longer out of stock before I found anything else I liked. The confirmation email said it would be delivered in a few days. One week after placing the order, I got an email saying it would be another 2 months before it would be delivered (so basically it still wasn't back in stock). By the time it finally made its way to San Francisco (shipped from Brazil through Virginia, according to the packing slip), one of the boxes was smashed on one side, which caused the metal clips that connect the side rails to the headboard to be bent, and made for a major pain when putting the bed together and required several other tools to try and straighten the metal before digging into the wood with a razor blade to make it work. We also found that we had to reinforce the tiny wooden slats running from left to right underneath the mattress because that part is made of cheap wood. The color of the wood is slightly less grey than pictured in the website's photo and actually has a slight hint of blue to the grey. Although we love the design, we were pretty bummed about 2 key things. The first is that on one side of the headboard the craftsmen missed the line by just a little bit & I noticed it immediately after putting the bed together. If you look at my photographs you can see why it is so very obvious. But due to the returns policy, returning it would be a nightmare. The 2nd issue is that the middle leg that holds the bed up can be seen underneath the bed when you walk into our room - and it's not stained the same color as the bed itself - it's raw wood, so now we have to take the time to dye it. So far, so great! The smell is not overt nor unbearable, and I am told that the mattress immediately inflated to its size. The first night it was okay for comfort, and excellent with cooling(I sleep hot normally) and the second night was perfect comfort. It is mediumfirm and normally I prefer firm but as this is my first memory foam, its perfect for me. I woke up refreshed and not in pain. I have severe back issues, surgery on Left L45S1 laminectomy when I was 29. Its a very nice looking mattress, as well. I was concerned about no longer having a pillowtop mattress, but I can say that I do not miss it. I will update in 98 days if I still love it or if I exchanged it, which is a wonderful Wayfair feature to have when you buy a mattress from them. This is what tipped me in their favor. Mattress came quickly and I was very happy with that. Still very happy with the mattress, and it has been 2 years. I got an adjustable base a year ago and it works good with that.
