This fireplace surround is great and well priced! It came in perfect condition, the directions clear and everything went together easily. The parts were all well made, fit tight and were ready to finish. I had to do a bit of shimming when attaching to the wall, but the hanger system is pretty ingenious. A little light sanding and filling nail and screw holes and then just prime and paint. The tile work was the hard part. The fireplace was just a firebox in the wall with a plaster frame around it that floated off the ground, but I built a raised tile hearth and front using this surround and did a bit of trompe l'oeil on the black firebox to make it look like the tile. Mantel arrived quickly and solidly packed. It is well constructed: glued, screwed and caulked. The pieces fit together very well. Be sure to check your measurements, and note the 4" projection. This mantel has a very large opening. My carpenter split the lintel and cut the pilasters in order to fit my fireplace. We covered the cuts with the provided molding and he fashioned a keystone to cover the seam in the lintel. It looks unbelievably great! I’m very impressed with how this turned out. It was a lot of pieces to put together but looks great in the end. I got the blue color and love how it looks. The color changing options on the fireplace are fun to play around with. I’m a little disappointed in the heat feature. Thought it would heat up my living room better than it does. I also read some complaints about a smell. I do notice a slight smell to it but I think it’s just because it is new. It’s also very mild and doesn’t bother me at all.
