This mantel arrived on time and was a great price, but was not made with very much attention to detail when it came to the finishing touches. There was paint rubbed off on the very front of it when we opened it, and scrapes on the sides. Also between the pieces of wood there are gaps which makes it look cheap. We are keeping it and my contractor is going to repaint it and fix these spots, but I’m not sure if I would buy again or not. I could see on the back that it was spray painted and they just didn’t do an adequate job. Pictures included. Otherwise it is a beautiful mantel and I really do like it, it was easy to install (for my contractor not me) and it was a good price. This fireplace surround is great and well priced! It came in perfect condition, the directions clear and everything went together easily. The parts were all well made, fit tight and were ready to finish. I had to do a bit of shimming when attaching to the wall, but the hanger system is pretty ingenious. A little light sanding and filling nail and screw holes and then just prime and paint. The tile work was the hard part. The fireplace was just a firebox in the wall with a plaster frame around it that floated off the ground, but I built a raised tile hearth and front using this surround and did a bit of trompe l'oeil on the black firebox to make it look like the tile. Mantel arrived quickly and solidly packed. It is well constructed: glued, screwed and caulked. The pieces fit together very well. Be sure to check your measurements, and note the 4" projection. This mantel has a very large opening. My carpenter split the lintel and cut the pilasters in order to fit my fireplace. We covered the cuts with the provided molding and he fashioned a keystone to cover the seam in the lintel. It looks unbelievably great!
