I might’ve given these 5 stars, if the top had been enclosed! I originally ordered them to be placed outside…on the short walls, on either side of my front door. But the fact that the top is wide open, means that rain will pour in them…bugs will accumulate…NOT suitable for outside, in my opinion. My bad, for not reading more carefully! Also, from past experience, I find that lanterns that take “C” or “D” batteries, generally last longer. These take 2 AAs. I need to continue to search for my outdoor ones, but for now These work well directly inside the front door of my 200 yr old log cabin. Love this! I love that it's made out of thick plastic because then you can keep it outside without worrying about it getting rusty. I can't tell you how many metal ones I have gotten rid of because of that. This lantern is well made, nice color gray that can go with any decor in your home. It would look great near a fireplace. It takes 3 "D" batteries, great height, and you can set the candles on a timer or leave them on for the amount of time you want. The candles let off a good amount of light to be used as a night light in a hallway when guests come, so they don't get hurt. Once you get this home, you will love it and look for places to put it.
