This Day of the Dead la Catrina table lamp comes with the black fabric shade as pictured. Made of polyresin, hand painted and polished, the quality finish is superb! because all our products are individually hand-painted works of art, the color tone may vary slightly from the pictures.

Inspired by the great heritage of Mexican Sugar skulls, we first carved our Catrina Skull with Roses in clay with a raised all-over floral pattern highlighted with lush jeweled flowers. The skull is cast in 14 individual pewter sections, soldered together, and finished in 14K gold from the Jay Strongwater Rhode Island workshop. Beautifully painted in 17 colors of enamel by our finest artisans in Rhode Island and sparkling with hundreds of hand-set Swarovski crystals in shades of fuchsia, rose, and peach.

Poised and dressed to the nines, Catrina personifies death with whimsical elegance. As always, she wears a wide-brimmed hat. Angel Cerón is inspired by the celebrated cartoon developed by José Guadalupe Posadas to poke fun at Mexico's high society during the early 1900's. Revealing Catrina's skeletal sculpture, the Oaxacan clay figurine is painted by hand. Catrina's head can be removed.

Lifting the hem of her wide skirts, a beautiful catrina in blue launches into a .sevillana.. Maria Lozano in Mexico crafts the stunning skeletal figurine from papier mache, painting it carefully by hand. Lozano designs the figurine after the original 'La Calavera Catrina', a zinc etching created by the artist José Guadalupe Posada in Mexico around 1910. Posada created the character, a female skeleton with an elegant hat, as a satirical portrait of Mexican natives who aspired to European style and denied their own heritage. The catrina has since become an emblem of Mexico's Day of the Dead celebration and a popular folk art subject.
