The lift attaches to the interior of the cabinet and attaches to a shelf (not provided). The shelf can be custom-sized to fit any cabinet from a 12" minimum to a 24" maximum. Absolutely best thing I have put in my kitchen. Wife is happy now that she no longer has to move her heavy KitchenAide mixer around when she wants to use it and it is off the counter which helps the appearance. When she uses it she just has to reach down and lift it out with 2 fingers and when she is done she pulls the handle and pushes down slightly and then it takes over and slowly lowers back into the cabinet like magic. The Lift System Enhances Utilization of Heavy Kitchen Aid Mixer The kitchen renovation incorporated plans to make better use of the mixer with easier access. The installation was professionally done, although I probably could have completed the hard labor myself (LOL). I am very happy with the outcome and can now enjoy a few more years of use because of the convenience of no longer having to pull it out of a closet or from an awkward shelf. A bonus was to have the fabricator place a pull-out shelf just below the resting position of the Heavy Duty Lift System and it worked out quite well. The bottom-line, if you still enjoy the challenge of fine food preparation and need a little assistance that a mechanism such as this device provides, than you should go for it.
