For many years now I have slept on a Spring Air back supporter mattress. They have a zoned alternating LFK-style coil system. The coils interlock so when you put pressure on one, the surrounding ones go down, too. In other words, it's a bouncy-type mattress that kids would have a blast jumping on if they got the chance. I didn't know there were other types of inner-spring mattresses until I started shopping.
My king size was too big for my current apartment bedroom, so I found this queen Beautyrest Silver BRS900 at Wayfair. I did a lot of research and found it to be a quality mattress. It's hard to buy a mattress online of course, but Wayfair has a refund policy, so I didn't worry about it. Wayfair also had the lowest price on the internet for it.
This BRS900 has a pocket-coil spring system and I wasn't sure if I would like it. I can tell you it is way different than inter-locking coils, but I think I love it! I've slept on it three times and it is way more comfortable than the Spring Air. It takes some getting used to because it has a dampening effect when you sit or lay on it. The pocket coils don't all mush down in an area because they are all separate, so they give great support.
This bed is medium firm and it's fine, it is soft and cozy feeling to pressure-point areas. It kind of hugs you. FYI, if you are looking to get either the medium firm or the medium in this bed, be advised the medium is firmer than the medium firm. The medium is a 3 and the medium firm is a 4.
Oddly, even though my Spring Air is a 2 on the firmness scale and this Beautyrest is a 4, the BRS900 has way more, and better, support! With the pocket-coil system, you don't sink down like with the Spring Air, which puts pressure on your neck and bottom. On the BRS900, you feel like you're laying on top of the mattress with minimal sinking, but a lot of comfort, and no strain on any part of your body. This bed is very comfortable and I'm never going back to an inter-locking coil system, it's pocket-coil for me from now on! My Spring Air squeaked ever since I got it, you couldn't sit on it without it making noise. The BRS900 is quiet.
The only thing that wasn't pleasant was the smell. Folks, let it off-gas for a few days in a room with the windows open and air flow. They made mine brand-spanking new when I ordered it and I got it within 10 days of manufacture. It smelled like an old-folks home. It's a mixture of the materials, and the wood and glue on the box springs, I think. I only waited 24 hours and I should have waited days. I woke up with a stuffed up nose because of it. But it's been 4 days since then and it is substantially less smelly. Also, It sits higher than I'd like, even with low-profile box springs. When I sit on the side, I have to use my tip-toes to touch the floor. But, overall, I am very pleased I bought this mattress and I highly recommend it! Get one!.
