I've searched for some time for a new dinnerware set that would suit my needs. I found this Mikasa and fell in love with the style and color; in addition, I was familiar with the Mikasa brand, having had several of their products previously. Overall, I'm very pleased with the set. The only issue that I've noticed, is that after several uses, the white areas are showing dark scratch marks from knife use; no indent type scratching, just pencil-like lines. Classical design, simple but pretty, easy to clean and store, good weight--this was a great value for an everyday-use flatware set. I read some complaints here before I bought them about dishwasher-spotting on the knives but...a) i haven't found this to be the case, even using my ancient 20+ year old dishwasher; b) unless you have colored plastic or round handles, what flatware doesn't spot? c) The manufacturer recommends hand-drying them at the end of the dry cycle ends if you're having company over & want perfection but, d) for daily use, my family wouldn't care even if they did spot.
