This unit perfectly utilized a tiny 8x10 “bedroom” in my 126-year-old house. I use it as a multi-purpose guest room (for one) and craftoffice area. It’s super resourceful and space-saving which I love and wouldn’t have otherwise conceived would be possible given how tiny the room is. That being said It’s a great deal for what you get, but what you get is a fully occupied weekend for AT LEAST two people, and that’s if you’re familiar with assembling furniture, which I am. This was hands-down the most tedious and time-consuming piece I’ve ever assembled—however, I expected that to be the case and prepared myself for it. I would advise separating all the parts by step (hardware especially) beforehand to prevent stupid mistakes like using screws on step 37 that were meant to be used on step 13. Every detail matters. I am single but I can see how this project could potentially end in divorce. All in all, it’s a great piece for the money—just prepare yourself for not just hours, but DAYS of labor. Highly recommend for the patient DIY folks. The instructions aren’t great but they rarely are. Fortunately there are QR codes on each step which link to videos showing the guys in the factory assembling it. Unfortunately the build quality and design isn’t effective. The rails and tracks that allow the bed to rotate from a desk to a bed are too weak to hold the weight of the structure. Causing the rails to come apart. I reached out to Wayfair who quickly provided replacement parts, but those parts failed as well. Looks like a design flaw. Too bad because it looked like a cool bed. This Murphy Bed comes in several heavy boxes with a lot of pieces. So it's definitely my recommendation to hire a professional to put it together to save you time and to ensure the product is assembled properly with anchoring to the wall for security. I must say it came together beautifully and will fit our needs for additional modern style storage and sleep space when we have overnight guests. The material is somewhat sturdy manufactured wood which is only noticeable up close. The frame will definitely only fit a 10 inch mattress or less. We tried a 12 in and the main door will not close. As many have mentioned, it would have been great to have shelves inside the cabinet but if you're handy you can easily install some for more storage. I have been shopping around for a quality Murphy bed for quite some time and almost bought a $4000 model but I'm glad I was able to save once I found this one for a fraction of the cost. This piece takes quite a while to put together and requires at least 2 adults to do it well. The assembly hardware doesn't fit tighly and easily shows because it is a contrasting color. I do not foresee the bookshelves staying in place with heavy use because the stabilizing pegs are too small for the holes. The swinging feet readily loosen every time you put it up or down. I had to come back and edit my review because at first when opening the boxes I was pleasantly surprised to to see that it was actually painted solid wood and not veneer or wrapped MDF. As we started putting it together there was imperfections in the pant and the screws were to long and popped through the finished. I have a small studio condo, this Murphy bed was the perfect answer. When not in use, it’s a beautiful piece of furniture that accents the room. I am ultimately happy with it and it does what I need. There is a lengthy construction process with 44 steps and a tone of screws; i definitely benefited from gentle use of a power drill for some steps while others needed to be done by hand. there is one type of diagram - that shows how to install the sliding tracks that is initially very hard to interpret. but taking my time and having a second pair of hands for the first half of construction made it work and its more or less exactly what I wanted for the space. eventually when I habe a bigger budget I would prefer hardwood but this is a reasonable solution for a small space. The Murphy bed came out beautifully! The materials are high quality, heavy and sturdy. The hydraulic lift mechanism was a great touch to deal with the load so it’s very smooth and easy to take out and put away. Securing to the wall is a MUST as well to avoid accidental injury. It does take a long time to build, but can be done 80 or so with 1 person over 5-6 hours. Certain steps need at least 2 people. We’re very excited about the space this saves in our guest room!.
