The material is somewhat sturdy manufactured wood which is only noticeable up close. The frame will definitely only fit a 10 inch mattress or less. We tried a 12 in and the main door will not close. As many have mentioned, it would have been great to have shelves inside the cabinet but if you're handy you can easily install some for more storage. I have been shopping around for a quality Murphy bed for quite some time and almost bought a $4000 model but I'm glad I was able to save once I found this one for a fraction of the cost. I was lucky did not have to assemble, but my contractor did cuss me out because of how long it took.... I did tell him up front that it was a full day job. Its done. My only complaint is that the couch cushions are very thin and do not look anything like the picture. Also, the exposed fasteners on the outside should have some kinda of cover over them. Please do not remove the iron straps compressing the hydraulic rods until you attach them to the body. Removing it early will cause the rod too long to fit into the predrilled hole.

I love this Murphy bed! It was a labor of love to put together, but my husband and I did it over several days. It’s built very well. We were impressed at how well it was built.
