The cabinet must be anchored to a wall with a minimum ceiling height of 86.4 inches. Allow a clearance of 30-36 inches around the open bed. The complementary shelving unit comes with 2 fixed and 3 adjustable shelves to hold your belongings. The dual-mount wall bed mechanism attaches to the floor and wall for maximum stability and durability. To avoid risk of injury, the bed must be installed to wall and floor structure by a professional or qualified person. Two people are required for assembly. Installation requires attachment to wood studs or masonry, removal of the baseboard, and drilling into the floor (if disassembly is required, holes may be covered with baseboards 0.5 inches or thicker). Put it together and installed it. Took the better part of the morning to build it, but not terrible. The springs are rather strong and bed acts like it wants to close back up so we clip a couple of diving weights at the foot to be sure it stays down. IMPORTANT SAFETY REQUIREMENT: The Murphy bed MUST be attached to AT LEAST 3 DIFFERENT wall studs (4 recommended) on the upper and lower panels for safety and stability. A professional installer with experience mounting kitchen cabinetry or TVs on the type of walls present in the home is required. The storage cabinet units are not freestanding and must be secured through studs. Not for commercial use or children under 6 years of age.
