Very nice product, no damage in shipping, 7 pieces, came cellophane wrapped in a sturdy cardboard box. Props to that.
You will have to remove some glue squash-out with an exacto knife, as the dentil detail is a separate piece, glued on to the main crown body, and in spots, there is some pretty major glue squash-out.
For those painting; 10/10 great product. 100% ready to rock.
For those just applying clear poly; 0/10 unless you like high contrast. Otherwise, forget it... it’s poplar. You will see MAJOR dark/light contrast, the darks will turn out VERY dark with poly- so no consistency.
For those staining; the primary piece is poplar, so you will see light/dark tones even in small batches, as it is not hand picked by you. The dentil detail is glued to the primary, and with careful effort, can be removed for ease of staining, and to more easily adjust your lengths for even mitered/coped cuts in the corners; or to paint the dentil detail a contrast color. I recommend removing the dentil for dark stain colors and using a wiping stain vs penetrating stain or pre-stain prior to staining as poplar dry will not take stain evenly.
Plan on spending more time than you are expecting to if using dark stains (Verathane Dark Walnut here).
Unfortunately, this is the only source I’ve found for a medium sized, high profile dentil crown, it would be nice if the dentil detail piece came separated from the main body for ease of stain/paint/application.. Mike G. Marquette, MI. 2022-02-12 19:13:44
