Add a touch of the tropics to your favorite rooms with the lush beauty of a White Bird of Paradise (botanically known as Strelitzia nicolai). Its big, lush leaves make any room feel more inviting and comfortable.
Keep your White Bird of Paradise happy by growing it in bright, indirect light. Water this beautiful houseplant about once a week with approximately 2-3 cups, ensuring excess water drains. Adjust as needed for your environment. Never let your White Bird of Paradise sit in water or saturated soil. If you’d like to boost growth in spring and summer, feed this large houseplant with a fertilizer labeled for potted plants following the products instructions. Should your White Bird of Paradise outgrow its current container, repot by gently removing it from its container and placing it one that’s 2 to 4 inches wider. Fill with potting mix and water thoroughly. Though we grow it as a houseplant, it is hardy outdoors in USDA Zones 9b-11.

I’m shocked how beautiful this plant is. I was worried when the order was delayed several months, when finally shipped was delayed by shipper and arrived with the box crumpled on top. But the plant is perfect. No damage, no yellow leaves and the soil is still damp. It’s a perfect size for indoors. I’ll leave it here over winter then let it run wild in the backyard this spring..
