I'm a 27 year old man with no particular handyman skills who decided to try and install this mirror solo and I can say it was one of the most difficult, emotionally draining things I've done. It was so difficult to get up and I hated every second of mounting it, however if I could give it 6/5 for looks, I would. It's simply beautiful.
I hope you can learn from my mistakes:
1. Use two people if you can, this thing weighs an absolute ton. If you can't find a second person, you'll need some courage from Mr. Jim Bean to help you get this thing up because you're in for a ride.
2. If you have 1/2 inch drywall do NOT use their included wall hardware (cheap plastic wall anchors). It's going to rip out of there the moment you let it lean any of its weight on the brackets. Use something durable and made out of steel. I used toggle bolts and they held it rock solid (this was after me trying to use their hardware and the mirror tearing them out instantly).
3. You'll be tempted to remove the doors to mount it because the thing weighs an absolute ton. Don't do that unless you absolutely have to because you'll be fussing with the alignment of the doors when you try and put them back on. It took me about an hour to get the doors back on straight to where they weren't rubbing against each other.
4. The instructions and measurements aren't in inches or centimeters. They're in millimeters. They're also absolutely awful to boot. As far as I can tell, they're totally approximate. Between the top and bottom brackets, they tell you to leave 600mm (60 cm). It wound up being more like 63 cm which was TOTALLY off.
5. The lower bracket wasn't actually wide enough to lock into the mirror and I had to put some wooden shims between the bracket and the wall to bring it out some.
6. I'd recommend drilling and mounting the lower bracket first, then placing the upper bracket over the top where it should go, marking where the holes should be, and then drilling those holes. It's nearly impossible to measure otherwise and the holes you'll be putting in your bathroom wall are big!
Did I scare you away? I hope not, this mirror is the jam. If you can stomach the installation, then it's will absolutely make your bathroom look beautiful.
Pros: Beautiful, high quality hinges
Cons: SO DIFFICULT TO MOUNT (see review for more details). David. Berlin. 2015-12-04 21:18:06
