Both the base and shade are cream colored. You have to assemble the shade. It comes rolled up and adheres with Velcro around the base. I assume that’s so it doesn’t dent in shipping. I like the fact that it has a three way switch and can adjust brightness. I also like the clear cord so you don’t see it down the wall. Beautiful terracotta base. A substantial lamp that is full of earthy character. The shade didn't work for me though. Felt too big, and because I have the lamp sitting on a side table in our sunken living room, you could see too much of the inside and the bulb. I realized I needed an empire shade instead of a drum, so I had to spend the extra money to purchase a different shade. But I'm happy with the purchase overall. Beautiful lamp however shipping was not good. Box came damaged and the shade was bent. I was able to fix it. The lamp itself is nice and heavy so no worries about it getting knocked off.
