Cribbage has been around since the 1600s. Poet Sir John Suckling of England first popularized it and described the rules of cribbage in roughly their modern form. Cribbage (originally spelt "cribbidge" - not "cribage") is a fairly straightforward development of an earlier game called Noddy, Suckling's main contribution being the 'crib' that gives the modern game its name. Beautiful chess set, I absolutely love everything about it. The handmade pieces are not perfectly uniform but this definitely adds to the character of the set. Highly, highly recommended! While it was packaged very well, mine, unfortunately, came snapped in half. I had trouble with Wayfair's report system (which is unusual, because it's usually stellar), so I decided to try and fix it. Super glue seems to have done the trick, although I'll certainly be very careful moving it around. Let's just say this adds to its personality. :) Fun fact: The elephant was once a chess piece before being replaced by the bishop. So, I'll be using my elephant pieces as bishops (the promo photos suggest using them as rooks). The rhinos seem more like a rook than a bishop anyway!. Andrea.
