This unit definitely shoots out cool air, but in no way is it capable of cooling 450 square feet effectively. Our kitchen/living area totals 430 square feet. We also have two ceiling fans to assist in circulating the cool air. We laugh, because we literally need to be sitting around our table in order to get relief from the heat. So...during this Southern California heat wave we are experiencing, we find ourselves spending a LOT of time together at the table, as it's the only place to truly cool off (since it is right in front of the window where this unit is installed). The setup/install process was pretty easy; took us probably less than an hour from the time we opened it to the time we fired it up. If you have a relatively small area to cool, this would probably do a decent job for you, but don't expect it to work miracles in larger areas.
