The knives are great and sharp, the block is solid and gorgeous, though pretty large. One of our knives has a different logo on it than the rest and one of them doesnt rest in its slot properly so it falls a bit unless you specifically adjust it (see photos). These are really nice, I waited to use them first and they work great. I love the scissors because they cut through everything. These knives are SHARP! I knew that I wanted a self sharpening block so I was deciding between the Modernist and the Statement set. I chose this because of the the curved handle. I feel the grip is better and with such sharp knives, and you need to be able to cut and chop without slipping off of the handle. Slicing tomatoes is like cutting through butter now and making my own salsa is easier than! The pictures of the knives and their length are on the box so I referred to it and the description of the knife right on the blade to know where to place it in the block. The block is quite large so luckily I have an island to put it on although it would have fit on my counter as well. Time will tell if the sharpening feature works as hoped. These are very nice but not as nice as my Mercer knives. Some of them have already experienced a little bit of corrosion and i have only had them for 8 months. In contract to Mercer knives which I have had for 8 years and have no corrosion, so, my review is four stars because I think they are nice but don’t seem like they will have staying power over the years. Please note I baby my knives when I wash them. They never see the inside of the dishwasher and I clean in lukewarm water with no harsh soaps or scrub brushes. They are sharp and the handles just a tad on the heavy side. If you want a nice premium set but one that isn’t going to TOTALLY WOW YOU (especially if you’re the type that really appreciates a nice knife) then by all means go off.. Lauren.
