It seems to do what it says. You just need to remember to change the filter. Compost only comes with one. But so far I don't have any odor at least until I open it. Also, if you're going to use it you have to buy the bags separately and I couldn't find that Wayfair sells them so had to buy elsewhere. Open composters are basically a plastic barrel tipped over with holes drilled into it and a couple of hatches. This composter is no exception. However, it was very reasonably priced and easy to assemble in 5 minutes with no tools required or pieces missing. As it really had minimal assembly instructions, it took me a minute intuit that the smooth edge of the side pieces are to overlap the seamed edge of the adjacent side piece. The composting instructions included were a good refresher. As noted in other reviews, the "anchoring" slots are more to stabilize the bin than to secure it during severe weather. Once it's fairly full it should be rather heavy, but if winds are a problem where you live you'll want to rig something up, likely. After assembly, the bin was light and compact enough to easily move out of the house to the back garden/yard through our rear door and to plop in the corner where there was bare earth. So far, my neighbors in rather particular Old Town Alexandria have not complained, so here's to hoping we're don't turn into the weird worm people on the block.. Tahroma. I like the the design and the principle of operation. We just assembled and put it into use a week ago, so have not seen results yet. The composter arrived quickly but was quite difficult to assemble. The two bins seem to slide back and forth on their support shaft a bit too freely, so my husband inserted a spacer to stabilze them and make it easier to lock them into position. This compost bin works for me. It was easy to assemble and I like that the bottom is open to the ground so worms can naturally work their way up and into my fresh scraps. I also appreciate that this is NOT a tumbler. We have one of those and the weight of the compost inside caused it to break off the stand.
